Ok, so this BBC article about meaningless football statistics really appealed to me.

Whilst I have a real affinity for numbers / data / statistics, I get a bit cross when they're used to say something that really doesn't need saying or is no use once it has been said.

And this is a challenge for us in HR..... we have access to so much information about our employees and their work, how do we use it? What is useful and what doesn't help anything?
