Why network?

Why network?

Yesterday (Sunday), a stray dog with no collar decided to let herself in to our house through the front door whilst we were pottering in and out of the house. Being a Sunday, we couldn't contact a dog warden or take her somewhere to check for a microchip so we used a spare collar we had to take her out for a walk hoping we would come across her owners out looking for her. Nothing straight away so took her home and kept her safe whilst posting messages and pictures of her on social media and encouraging sharing of these. By the power of networks and facebook, six hours later she was back home where she belonged :-)

What has that got to do with business? Well networking was something I had not done much of before starting in my own business and still something I find difficult on occasions.

But now I do more of it and find that it can bring benefits. Not just for lost dogs but also in business. There’s the discount I received on an IT service for referring a couple of potential clients. And the work I’ve done with university students after discussions at a panel event. Or the charity receiving funding because of an introduction to a corporate sponsor.

So, to test this out and put my network to good use....any HR professionals out there who need someone or something to help in their team, department or organisation? Let me know and I will connect you to someone I know who can help or publicise your request for relevant people to get in touch. Lets get people in our communities connected :-)
