IR35...what will it cost?

Do you know what the change in costs will be for your contractors if their role is assessed as “inside” IR35?

The graph above shows the potential impact for your contractors. Bear in mind that the actual figures involved will depend on how much they are paid, any other income they receive, their expenses and so on. It does, however, give a good indication of the scale of the potential impact and why many contractors are so invested in keeping their status as “outside” IR35.

This cost impact will also inform what approach your organisation takes in offering contractors in roles assessed as “inside” IR35. Does your organisation choose end the contract relationship, do you instead choose offer substantive employment, or do you operate inside IR35 with an increase the amount you pay? Your approach will depend on your organisation, culture, skills needs and budget. But you will need to be aware of how much extra you might need to pay.
